How do I join my-tvchat.com?

Sorry, but we are not taking any registrations. This chat was set up so that existing active members of UltimateTV's HTML chat would have a place to go when that site was closed down. Inactive accounts are deleted after 1 year of inactivity. Since this site has no ad banners (and hence no source of revenue), we have no plans to ever have open registrations again.

I am using America Online or WebTV and Chat does not work

Unfortunately the AOL Web Software does not handle forms very well. To make Chat work you need to select "reload" on your menu bar to view new messages. To send a message, type in your message and push "chat". To view your posted message select "reload" again. OR. go to Here and learn how to use Netscape with your AOL Account.

How do I receive messages?

Once you are in a chat room it's very simple. Whenever you want to receive the latest in the conversation, click on the Chat/Update button. Any new conversation will be sent to you, along with a few of the paragraphs you've already seen (for context). The new stuff will be near the top of your screen, with a pointer to it. If there is nothing new the server will tell your browser that, and won't send anything. Some browsers handle this by just leaving up the page you already had; others may redraw the screen anyway.

If you want to scroll back in the conversation, enter the number of messages to scroll back in the scroll back box and then click on the Chat button.

If the person sending something gave a URL for a picture of themselves that will be displayed to the left of their name. And if they included references to inline gifs in their message text these will be displayed too. Any hyperlinks they put in will be made live and indicated by a live word.

How do I Send a Message?

All you need to do to send a message is type it into the big text entry area on the screen and then click on the CHAT/UPDATE button.

If you want some image to show up next to your name (your picture, a photograph of your dog, etc.), then fill in the PICTURE box with an http:// address that points to the .gif you want to use. It can be on any machine in the world that is a web server.(You cannot display pictures that are stored on your computer's hard drives or floppies!) It's polite to not use too big an image and also to think of the sensibilities of others.

Your message can also contain inline .gifs sprinkled amongst the message itself. To do that, just type the address of the .gif just like above, but put it somewhere in your input text instead of the PICTURE box.

To send a live hyptertext link in your text, type in the full address of the page you want to point to.

How do I send Private Messages ?

To send a private message (PM) you need the EXACT User handle of the person you want to send the PM to. You enter your message in the box underneath the "Person to get Private Message" box. Then you hit the same chat/update button you normally do. You may send a PM and a normal chat message at the same time.

How do I ignore someone ?

You ignore a person by clicking on the "Ignore Chatter" button. It pops up a table of users. You select the chatter to ignore and then hit the Chat/Update button to continue chatting. You also have the option of entering a message or PM.
